Repeating triple

Its not one of those events you can make an easy guess at. I think the odds are the same as those for match 3 i.e 57 to 1. Its the 23rd time there has been a direct repeating triple (skip of 1) so on average over 1483 draws the repeat frequency is 1483/23= 64 draws. This is only an average and the actual value varies every time.

I thought it would be of interest to find out how many times other values of skip for triples have happenned and when they last ocurred. I created a table as below with results for draw skips up to 20.



Interesting features are :-

The most common number of repeating triples with given skip number (since the Lotto started) is 26 , which works out at an average period between ocurrences of about 57, which is what you would expect given the odds.
A skip of 18 draws resulting in a repeating triple happens way less than it should, only every 105 draws.
The most overdue skip (in the range 1 to 20) is 19 , the last time that happenned was 188 draws ago so its three times overdue to happen.

The most common repeat triples happen between draws 5 apart (skip =5) . There have been 35 of those, averaging one every 42 draws. The last time was when draw 1475 contained 3 numbers which were also drawn in draw 1480, hence skip of 5.

I suppose one could base a system on second guessing when the next repeat triples of various skips may happen. One would have to use the whole result from the prospective past draw(s) to build up a pool of numbers for the future draw which may match at least 3 balls.

So, just for fun you might pick draw 1465 (19 draws ago ) giving 4, 16, 18, 43, 45, 49 and also perhaps use the next most overdue skip (of 6) and pick 8,24,27,31,34,36 from draw 1478 hoping that from those 12 you'd have a good few hits.
