I sympathise with you. Gail Howard has made her money from writing books not from the lottery itself!

My attitude is always to be positive (I expect to win) and mostly do even if it's small amounts. I have had five numbers up three times since the lottery started - one was a lucky dip! - the others my own efforts.

I have found treating it as a hobby (I neither drink nor smoke) brings greater joy and anticipation of landing the 'big one'

Hi davey, your frustations are being echoed all over the country with lotto enthusiasts and those as you say just grab a lucky dip,with the words 'why not me!!, camelot go to great lengths at advertising lucky dip winners, but how many winners have they advertised that have turned round and said, I have a system and it works well!! none to my knowledge, would they want that sort of information out there, but i bet in the 11 years that it has been going someone somewhere won using a system, but you will never hear of it. and like david I treat the lottery as a puzzle and the key to any puzzle is in the puzzle itself, like you I have won more studying the numbers than i ever have with a lucky dip, and like you when my mother rings and says ive won a tenner, and I got buggar all I could quite easily choke her and her ticket!!, (only joking mum) chin up davey and dont answer the phone!!

The only time it's worth buying a Lucky Dip ticket is when the Euromillions has a large jackpot. With odds of 76 million to one you will need all the luck you can get.

'Dream Number' doesn't interest me at all.

I have found every contributor to this forum to be very helpful with their charts and ideas.

I look at them all and take them into consideration when making my choices.

We all have the same end in view!

I will have a think about doing the new Thunderball when it starts as getting five numbers out of 34 was difficult enough. The most I ever managed was four a couple of times.

It might be wiser to concentrate my resources on the lotto and lotto hotpicks instead - I'll see how it goes.

Theres nothing wrong with a lucky dip, provided you chose the lucky dip with your own random number generator. You have no way of knowing where Camelots lucky dip comes from so you are at their mercy as has been said earlier. Use http://www.random.org/quick-pick/ set it up for whatever lottery and away you go. If you win , its still your system , you chose to use it and Camelot had no control over the line generated.
I still think its fun to do something yourself, If it were not for the lottery, Excel would be an obscure program with very little use to me and I still find it satisfying to know something nobody else knows because I found a way of extracting a statistic which may be of use.

Hi David...

Do you use computer programs to get your frequencies or are you like me still stuck in the dark ages with pens and paper?

I use pen and paper to work out my selections Davey but I get the frequencies etc from other websites which are free e.g. http://www.lottery.merseyworld.com or http://www.llednulb.demon.co.uk

I think your Frequency ideas combined with my Skip ideas and charts maybe the way forward. I've just worked on the Euromillions for 3 hours trying to draw up a good frequency chart. I remember what you said about going back mostly 20 draws. I went back 10 draws and 15 draws. I noted down the frequency of each number that came up not the frequency of every single number. The results look promising.

The Euromillions at odds of 76 million to one is not worth the mental effort in my opinion. A Lucky Dip using random.org is what I use.

I have perfected my skip charts which took over 10 years of messing about but I need a bit more from you. How do you log your frequencies? I'm finding it rather cumbersome. I will work out an easier way eventually but I don't think I could go through another 10 years!!

There are sites which give you the information you require. RKL's site does give most of the info you require. If you are interested in others I will PM you direct through this forum if you like.

Do you simply write down how many times each number has currently hit in say the past 10 draws, then have a separate chart which shows a framework of what to expect every draw and use the bias to your advantage, or is it from research you simply know to choose say 2 numbers that have been out 5 times in the past 20 draws, maybe 1 number that hasn't been out at all and so on.

I keep it very simple. I don't use charts. Basically I use all the information at my disposal from this forum and other websites as I mentioned above. then add a dash of intuition and a spoonful of luck, stir well and there you have it!

When choosing your numbers if you were looking at say the past 20 draws for frequencies are you looking back 19 draws and seeing what needs to change to bring it all back into line?

Mostly although sometimes I look back at just ten draws and occasionally at 100 draws. I am like your flexible friend!
